Algiers, August 09, 2019 (SPS) - Sahrawi President, Brahim Gali on Wednesday said that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) was a national, regional, continental and international irreversible reality that can be neither denied nor ignored.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Frente POLISARIO Summer Conference in Boumerdes, President Gali welcomed the solidarity and support provided by the Algerian State and Government to the Sahrawi people in their struggle for independence.
“The SADR is an irreversible national, regional, continental and international reality that can neither be denied nor ignored. We meet with the Kingdom of Morocco on an equal footing, as two African and neighbour countries under the African Union (AU),” said the Sahrawi President.
“Together, we partake in the activities and meetings of the AU’s continental conferences and we meet with various AU partners in the world,” stated Gali.
“It is time the Kingdom of Morocco assumes its responsibilities in the face of this natural and legitimate reality so as we can build our region together and meet our peoples’ expectations in terms of peace, stability, development, prosperity and mutual respect,” stated Gali.
Gali also referred to the celebration of the victory of the Algerian football team at CAN 2019 against Senegal (1-0) in Aaiun, violently repressed by Moroccan occupation forces, which murdered Sabah Othman Omeida by crushing her with one of their vehicles.
The Sahrawi president denounced the brutality of this repression that prompted him to refer the matter to the United Nations to take responsibility and open an investigation.
Unacceptable delay in decolonization process, UN must assume full responsibility
Deploring the delay in the decolonization process in Western Sahara, last colony in Africa, the Sahrawi president said that “it is time for the United States and the Security Council to assume full responsibility of the unacceptable and unjustifiable delay in the process.”
“The prolongation of the suffering endured by the Sahrawi people is an injustice that will only lead to new tensions in the region and the whole world,” said Gali.
Besides, the Sahrawi president called “the State of Spain to assume its historical, political and legal responsibilities towards the Sahrawi people.”
“Spain remains responsible for the situation in Western Sahara as a colonial power,” he continued.
“Instead of playing a role in accordance with their stance on the conflict, the Spanish governments continue to support Morocco’s expansionist and arbitrary policy,” said Gali. SPS
