British organisations launch campaign for release of Sahrawi political prisoners

Submitted on

London, June 30, 2019 (SPS) - Adala-UK and Western Sahara Action Forum (WSAF) have launched a campaign in the United Kingdom, through which they have sent a letter to Moroccan Ambassador in London urging him to call upon its country to stop human rights violations in Western Sahara and release all Sahrawi political prisoners.
This campaign coincides with the visit of Sahrawi human rights activist and president of the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) Aminatou Haider to the United Kingdom as part of a wide campaign for release of Sahrawi political prisoners.
This campaign will be an opportunity to recall the lack of political willingness among the Security Council’s members and the United Kingdom, as well as the failure of the Security Council to include the monitoring of human rights to the mission of MINURSO.
The visit of Sahrawi activist Aminatou Haider was also an occasion to address the brutality of Moroccan Police, the arbitrary detentions, the mock trials and physical, verbal abuse against Sahrawi people.  (SPS)
