Madrid, November 18, 2018 (SPS)- Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar warned Saturday, in Madrid, of the “worrying” humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, denouncing the Moroccan suppression and the violations of Sahrawi people’s rights.
Speaking in the 43rd European Coordinating Conference of Support to the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO), Aminatou Haidar warned that “the situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara is worrying and that the Sahrawi populations don’t have a normal life at all,” because of, she denounced, “the repressive practices of the Moroccan authorities and their colonial policy towards the Sahrawi civilian population.”
This Moroccan repression policy, she said, is illustrated through “banning of all free expression forms and the excessive use of force against all forms of peaceful protests organized by the Sahrawi people on their own land.”
She welcomed the support of the Sahrawi people’s friends, particularly in Europe, to reveal the human rights’ violations perpetrated by the Moroccan regime against the Sahrawi people and to shed light on the plundering of their natural resources by Morocco and its western allies.
“Thanks to this mobilization, the European Parliament made in the past few years unfavorable opinions concerning the renewal of the fisheries agreement between the Moroccan State and the European Union,” she said, regretting the fact that “some EU’s countries, notably Spain and France, disagreed with the decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) concerning the natural resources of Western Sahara and sought by all means to circumvent them.” (SPS)
