El Aaiún (occupied territories), June 30, 2018 (SPS) - Representatives of the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) held Friday a meeting with UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Köhler, in the presence of Colin Stewart, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Western Sahara, Head of MINURSO, according to a CODESA press release.
The meeting was held at the headquarters of MINURSO in El Aaiún, the occupied capital of Western Sahara, at the request of officials of the United Nations Mission on the eve of the first visit of UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Köhler, in the territory.
The General Situation in Western Sahara was the central theme of the meeting between the CODESA and UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Köhler.
UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara started Thursday a visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara amid a heavy Moroccan military presence and a severe media siege.
Despite the blockade imposed by the Moroccan forces on the main occupied Sahrawi cities, the Sahrawi masses took to the streets carrying the Sahrawi flag and demanding self-determination and independence. (SPS)
