The session is part of the preparatory meetings ahead of the 31st AU Heads of State and Government Summit, to be held on July 1 and 2, 2018, in Nouakchott, Mauritania, under the theme " Winning the Fight Against Corruption : A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”,
A report on the situation of peace and security on the continent and the implementation of the AU master roadmap on practical steps to Silence the Guns by 2020 will be presented to the Assembly. Silencing the guns is a flagship project of Africa’s Agenda 2063. The Heads of State and Government will also adopt the budget of the African Union for 2019, following the recommendations of the Executive Council. Their decisions and declarations will guide the work of the AU as it implements its mandate of driving prosperity, peace and unity in Africa.
The current session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives is expected to review the reports of the regular sessions of a number of specialized technical committees of the African Union on financial affairs, economic planning and integration, justice and law, trade and industry, The structural position of some decision-making bodies in the African Union.
