Bir Lehlu (Liberated Territories), March 29, 2018 (SPS) - The Sahrawi National Commission for Human Rights warned on Wednesday, in a statement, of the seriousness situation of Saharawi political prisoners, particularly the prisoners of Gdeim Izik, on hunger strike since last March 9, in protest of the bad treaties and the contradictory conditions to the international conventions related to the prisoners.
he Sahrawi Human Rights NGO has called the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, human rights organizations, political parties and parliaments, to urgently intervene to exert pressure on Morocco to respect international treaties, especially the Geneva Convention on political prisoners.
"The Moroccan regime and its prison institutions continue their systematic reprisal against Saharawi political prisoners, especially the Gdeim Izik group, for their political opinions contrary to the occupation," the statement said, while maintaining that "the Commission considers that their detention is arbitrary and violates international human rights conventions. "
"All political prisoners on hunger strike are in a dangerous and deteriorated state of health, due to torture and ill-treatment," the statement said.
"We demand the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails," the communiqué reiterates, before "expressing full solidarity with the families of the Saharawi political prisoners who suffer the repression of the occupier," the CONASADH communiqué concludes. SPS
