Bir Lahlou, March 15, 2018 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO, Mr. Brahim Gali, called on the United Nations to stop the organization of the so-called Crans Montana Forum in occupied Dakhla, calling this act a provocation that would undermine the efforts of the United Nations led by it Personal Envoy President Horst Koehler in his letter to His Excellency ,Secretary General of the United Nation, Mr. Antonio Guterres
“I am writing to draw the attention of your Excellency to the Moroccan state’s insistence to organize, yet again, another so-called Forum of Crans Montana, from the 15th to the 20th of March, in the occupied city of Dakhla, Western Sahara.” Gali says in his letter to UNSG
President Brahim Gali also went on saying that “The Frente Polisario strongly condemns this new provocative act and calls for your urgent intervention to convince Morocco stop this provocation that undermines the efforts of the United Nations led by your Personal Envoy, President Horst Kohler.”
He stressed that the organization of this so-called Forum is in complete contravention with the International Law and the International Humanitarian Law, since Western Sahara is still under the legal responsibility of the United Nations as a Non-Self-Governing territory pending a decolonization process, adding Morocco, as it is well established has no sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara and should therefore abstain from organizing international or national activities in the occupied zones of the territory and refrain from trying to change the reality on the ground in any form.
Furthermore, organizing such activities in the occupied territory of Western Sahara should no more be tolerated while the UN is working hard to bring the two parties to the conflict, Frente POLISARIO and Morocco, to enter into direct negotiations under your auspices and the auspices of your Personal Envoy. He emphasizes
Gali added that the Moroccan Kingdom’s move can only be considered as an irresponsible attempt to jeopardize the efforts so far paid under your auspices to bring peace in Western Sahara and should therefore be stopped.
The President of the Republic stressed the seriousness of this matter and of the need to avoid all that can cause additional obstacles to the efforts of the international community aimed at ending colonization from Western Sahara.SPS
