Tantan (South of Morocco) 5 March 2018 - Sahrawi masses organised Sunday a solidarity platform to mark the 10th anniversary of the arrest of Sahrawi human rights activist Yahya Mohamed Al-Hafed Izzah at his family home in Tantan, southern Morocco.
The platform witnessed the arrival of sympathizers from the occupied territories, southern Morocco and the university sites, who declared their support for the Saharawi political detainee and their solidarity with his family, and demanded the Moroccan state to immediately release him and all Sahrawi political prisoners.
In the meantime, the Moroccan occupation forces, as usual, besieged the family’s house and prevented many Saharawi activists from entering the area.
Moroccan authorities arrested him on February 29, 2008, for participating in a peaceful demonstration organized by Sahrawi youth on 26 February 2008 in the Ain al-Rahma district, Tantan, southern Morocco, which demanded respect for human rights in Western Sahara and to allow the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and Independence, where he was referred to the Court of Appeal in Agadir, southern Morocco, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
