Smara (Sahrawi Refugee Camps), Feb 28, 2018 (SPS)- The Decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which excludes the territorial waters of Western Sahara from EU-Morocco fisheries agreement has come to confirm its previous decision and complies with the requirements of the international law and the international humanitarian law, said Tuesday President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO Brahim Gali.
In his speech on the occasion of the festivities commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Smara, Gali said that the decision made today by CJEU has come to confirm its previous decision and complies with the requirements of the international law and the international humanitarian law,” stressing “the importance” of the consent of the Sahrawi people through the voice of its only legal representative the Frente POLISARIO on any exploitation of the Sahrawi natural resources.
This decision “is a new victory for the Sahrawi people and their fair struggle and also for the legality, the values of justice and human rights, EU’s founding principles,” said Sahrawi President, reiterating his call to the European Commission to “rigorously comply with the requirements of this decision and that preceding it, and thus the European law and international law.”
He also called the Commission to refrain from signing any agreement with Morocco comprising the territories or the territorial waters of Western Sahara.”
CJEU announced Tuesday the fisheries agreement concluded between EU and Morocco “valid” insofar as it is not applicable to Western Sahara and the Sahrawi territorial waters.SPS
