Smara (Sahrawi refugee camps), Feb 26, 2018 (SPS) -The festivities celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) kicked off Sunday in Smara with an international Conference on “civil and peaceful resistance against the Moroccan occupation.”
Attended by Sahrawi and foreign organizations, the event aims to draft “a new strategy of civil and peaceful resistance to snatch the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.”
The other particularity of this celebration is the “historical” participation of one hundred human rights militants and experts who will prepare an effective and comprehensive peace campaign based on a common vision of all organization of support to the Sahrawi people and other international players.
Conferences and workshops are scheduled under this three-day event to draft “a joint action plan designed to boost civil and peaceful resistance against the Moroccan occupation” with the contribution of experts from various countries, including Palestine, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and other countries.
Support to resistance amid efforts for resolution
Besides, participants will discuss with the Sahrawi parties experiences in terms of conditions to make civil and peaceful resistance successful, like the Palestinian struggle and the strategy against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
The 42nd anniversary of the SADR proclamation is being celebrated at a time diplomatic actions intensify to settle the Western Sahara conflict and revive the negotiation process between the Polisario Front and Morocco.
The United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) had called the parties to the conflict to hold bilateral consultations in accordance with the decisions of the Security Council. (SPS)
