Polisario Front “wasn’t consulted” about EU-Morocco draft agreement signed in January

Brussels, Feb 24, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front “wasn’t consulted” and “wasn’t aware” of the content of the draft agreement signed on 31 January 2018 by the European Union (EU) and Morocco following negotiations on the conclusion of an additional agreement to their association agreement after the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of December 2016, affirmed the Sahrawi Minister delegate for Europe Mohamed Sidati.
“We weren’t consulted about the amendment proposed to EU-Morocco trade agreement. We weren’t also aware of the content of the draft agreement signed between the two sides,” he said in a communiqué.
In this regard, the Sahrawi minister underlined that the consent of the Polisario Front, legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, “wasn’t formally solicited” in terms of the inclusion of Western Sahara in the framework of this draft agreement, which constitutes “a flagrant violation of the decision of December 2016.”
In its decision of 21 December 2016, CJEU concluded that EU-Morocco association and liberalization agreements are not applied in Western Sahara. (SPS)
