Saharawi Petroleum and Mining Authority expresses satisfaction with the withdrawal of Kosmos Energy and Capricorn Exploration from Occupied Western Sahara

Chahid El Hafed, Feb 07, 2018 (SPS) - The Saharawi Petroleum and Mining Authority expressed satisfaction with the decision of foreign companies, Kosmos Energy and Capricorn Exploration & Development Company Ltd, to suspend their oil exploration activities in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, said a statement from the authority reached SPS.
The Saharawi authorities have described this withdrawal as an "exhausting blow" for the projects of the Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara.
For the president of the Saharawi authority, Dr. Ghali Zubeir, "This withdrawal is part of a series of initiatives by foreign companies after the legal and moral pressure against these companies for their involvement in Morocco's projects that are contrary to the charter and the spirit of international law "He said.
On this occasion, the Saharawi Petroleum Authority and Mines Commission, appealed to all foreign companies activating in Western Sahara, to legalize their situation by negotiating with the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, the Frente POLISARIO or the immediate withdrawal and of any investment in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
Cosmos Energy and Capricorn Exploration & Development have been bound by contracts signed with the Moroccan occupation for oil and gas exploration in the territorial waters of Western Sahara in the Boujdour block for several years, it is recalled. SPS
