54th ANC Conference: President of Republic welcomes historic decisions in favour of Sahrawi struggle

Pretoria (South Africa), December 23, 2017 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, welcomed Thursday “the historic decisions” which culminated the works of the 54th Conference of the African National Conference (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, in favour of the struggle of the Sahrawi people against the Moroccan occupying forces for freedom and independence.
In a letter to the elected President at the head of ANC, Cyril Ramaphosa and delivered on his behalf by the member of the national secretary of the Polisario Front and governor of Al Ayun Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, the Sahrawi President extended on behalf of the Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front Directorate, his wishes to ANC’s president, newly elected at the head of ANC who, he said, has close ties with the Polisario dating back to a long time.”
He also welcomed “the big success” of the conference and the historic decisions taken notably the Congress’ recommendations in favour of the struggle of the Sahrawi people and its full solidarity with them.
The 54th ANC Congress, which took place in Johannesburg from 16 to 20 December, broached in its final statement the Sahrawi cause, reaffirming its unfailing support to the struggle of the Sahrawi people for their freedom and independence.
It also adopted an important recommendation which aroused a long debate, in which the participants unanimously underlined the presence of the colonial phenomenon in Africa through Morocco’s occupation of the territories of the Sahrawi Republic.
They called to impose sanctions on Morocco to force it to conform to the international legality.
The participants in this conference called on the South African government to designate a special envoy to Western Sahara to take all the necessary steps to implement the conference’s recommendations. (SPS)
