Shaheed El-Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 20, 2017 (SPS)- The United Nations should force Morocco to respect the international law and legality concerning the Sahrawi issue, said Wednesday President of the Sahrawi Parliament Khatri Edouh.
“The United Nations should force Morocco to respect the international law and the international legality concerning the Sahrawi issue. It constitutes a basis for the relaunch of peace negotiations, in deadlock since 2012, and for the success of Kohler’s mission concerning the organization of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara,” said Edouh following a meeting with the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Western Sahara Horst Kohler who is on a two-day visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps.
Edouh reaffirmed the willingness of the Sahrawi officials to cooperate with Kohler “on the basis of the principle that the Sahrawi issue is a decolonisation process, an issue of territory whose post-colonial status has never been defined,” he said.
“We hope to create favourable environment for the reopening of negotiations and the improvement of conditions in the occupied Sahrawi territories, notably the issue of human rights,” added the Sahrawi diplomat. (SPS)
