Panama supports a solution based on Western Sahara people self-determination

New York, Oct 10, 2017 (SPS) – The Panamanian delegation at the General Debate of the Fourth Committee on Decolonization expressed its strong support for a "just, durable and mutually acceptable political solution, providing for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, within the framework of provisions in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. "
In order to achieve this solution, Panama welcomes the report of the Secretary General (...) which highlights the need to overcome this conflict "so that the region can cope with threats of security and economy.
In this direction, Panama reiterates its support for the resumption of negotiations between the parties to the conflict through the mediation of the new special envoy, Horst Kohler.
Finally, the Panamanian delegation conveyed the commitment of his country to the efforts of United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in the culmination of the decolonization of the 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories registered in the Decolonization Committee. SPS
