Brussels (Belgium), Sept 26, 2017 (SPS) - The Greens parliamentary group in the European Union Parliament denounced yesterday the renegotiation of the EU-Morocco association agreement, considering that it is contrary to the ruling of the European Court of Justice and a violation of international law.
European lawmakers clarified that the renegotiation of the agreement with Morocco aims to "normalize the occupation of Western Sahara," and that neither the United Nations nor any EU country recognizes the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over Western Sahara.
On the other hand, the Greens denounce the fact that the EU has given up its contribution to the peace process and, next to part of the conflict, Morocco. And that European diplomats resort to denying the reality that the Western Sahara was illegally annexed by Morocco, so, the matter is a process of decolonization.
As for the looting of the natural resources of the occupied Western Sahara, MEPs say that "the complicit silence of the EU regarding the plunder of the Saharawi people's natural resources is condemned, immoral and contradicts the judicial decisions of the European Court.
The Greens also demanded a solution to the conflict that "guarantees the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination," and "this avoids a conflict that has damaged geo-strategic relations in the Euro-Mediterranean zone."
Finally, the deputies warned about the semantic maneuvers that are intended to mix the settlers who constitute the majority of the inhabitants of the territory and the Saharawi people, adding that the European Court demanded the consent of the Saharawi people when carrying out activities on their natural resources .
