Boumerdes (Algeria), August 12, 2017 (SPS) – Sahrawi Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, said Thursday in Boumerdes, that the status quo "still persists in Western Sahara" due to the "Moroccan regime’s political one-upmanship, “and the "Sahrawi people cannot remain inactive forever."
In a news conference, hosted at the opening of the 8th Summer University for the executives of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Taleb Omar said that "as long as the Sahrawi people have not recovered the right to independence through peaceful and legal methods, they remain ready to all the options, including resuming the armed struggle.”
"However, we currently prefer to favour peaceful solutions and approaches capable of solving the conflict, notably through the UN institutions," he added.
The “Sahrawi people,” said Taleb Omar stressed, "is still awaiting the new special envoy of the UN Secretary-General to the region, since the promulgation of UN resolution N 23/51 last April.”
He thus blamed the Moroccan regime which put obstacles in order “to save time".
Those obstacles are a "source of more tension," underlining nevertheless the option taken by the Sahrawi people to privilege the UN approach, calling for "more rigour.” (SPS)
