Tenerife (Spain), August 09, 2017 (SPS) -The Saharawi community in the Canary Islands has called on Spanish government to "punish" those responsible for the plundering of Western Sahara's natural resources, including sand from the port of the occupied town of Aaiun,
"Saharawi community in Tenerife held Sunday a sit-in at El Camison Beach (in the south of the Canaries), where a Canary company unloaded quantities of sand brought, recently, from the port of the occupied town of Aaiun for a new levelling of the beach,"
The protests were attended by dozens of Saharawi children, who are in the Canaries as part of a programme called "Peace Holiday," along with the host families and several members of the "the Canary Islands Association for Friendship with Saharawi People, including the group's leader,Alberto Nagrine, and the representative of the Frente POLISARIO in the Canary Islands, Hamdi Mansour,"
"The protesters, through their action, seek to inform the public opinion in the Canaries and worldwide that at a moment Saharawi population is undergoing starvation, injustice and destitution in the occupied territories, the natural resources of occupied Western Sahara are plundered."
The protesters called Spanish authorities to "take the necessary measures to ensure Saharawi people's sovereignty over their natural resources, considering that Spain is the territory's administering power." SPS
