President of Republic received by Cuban counterpart

Havana, May 27, 2017 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario front, Brahim Ghali, was received Friday by his Cuban counterpart, Raúl Castro, as part of an official visit to Cuba.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the historic ties of solidarity, cooperation and fraternity that unite the two countries and discussed international issues, reported the Cuban press.
The Cuban president reaffirmed that the situation in Western Sahara requires great effort to implement the relevant United Nations resolutions to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and to enjoy its legitimate right to live in peace on its territory.
At a ceremony held this morning at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples, President Ghali affirmed the Saharawis' will to continue the struggle for national independence and thanked Cuba's support for this cause.
On his arrival in Havana, the President of the Republic considered it a "great honor" to be in Cuba, as a sister nation, expressing his satisfaction at the visit which coincides with the celebration of Africa Day.
As part of its program of activities, the President of the Republic will visit the province of Santiago, east of the country, and the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro. (SPS)
