New York, March 22, 2017 (SPS) - The President of the Republic , Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO, Mr. Brahim Gali, asked the Security Council to assume its responsibility and to end, as soon as possible, the Moroccan escalation policy and provocation.
The President of the Republic recalled that the responsibility of the Security Council to establish international peace and stability requires more rigor and firmness to end the flagrant violations of Morocco, noting that opening a breach in the Moroccan military wall and leaving is a grave violation of the cease-fire agreement and military agreement number 1.
In this regard, the President of the Republic informed the UNSC Presidency on Monday of the need to adopt practical and urgent measures to end the Moroccan escalation and provocation in The occupied areas of Western Sahara, where the Moroccan occupier commits serious human rights violations, expels international observers, systematically sieges and looting Saharawi natural resources.
Besides, the President of the Republic called for the cessation of the unjust trial of Sahrawi political prisoners Gdeim Izik Group and the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners in all Moroccan charters.
The President of the Republic expressed his hope that the Security Council would take action against the expulsion of the civil and political component of MINURSO that was established by the Security Council and determined its powers.
The President of the Republic requested the Security Council to accelerate the implementation of resolution 2285 so that MINURSO can resume its work in full and begin negotiations between the two parties so that the Saharawi people can exercise their inalienable right to Freedom and independence, recalling in the same context that the Sahrawi party is committed to constructive cooperation with the United Nations SG, Mr. Antonio Guterres.
It should be recalled that the President of the Republic arrived in New York on Wednesday on a multi-day visit in which he met with the United Nations SG, Mr. António Guterres, and had discussions with the Chairman of the Decolonization Committee, Mr. Rafael Ramírez, where they discussed at this meeting the current developments of the Saharawi cause and the process of decolonization in Western Sahara.
