The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the development of the struggle of the Saharawi people for their right to self-determination and independence in the context of decolonization, which is entrusted to this committee, said the representative of the Frente POLISARIO to the UN, Mr. Boukhari Ahmed.
The meeting served to inform the president of this committee, known as the committee of the 24, of the latest developments of the question of Western Sahara on the ground and in view of the next report of the UN SG for the Security Council, "He added.
The committee has included in its agenda 2017 the examination of the situation in Western Sahara at its meeting scheduled from 12 to 23 June next, it is recalled.
The President of the Republic met last Friday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, a head-to-head meeting to review the UN efforts to resolve the Western Sahara conflict and ways to accelerate the implementation of the UN-AU settlement plan for the holding of a referendum on the self-determination of the Saharawi people.SPS
