Algiers, March 14, 2017 (SPS) - Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel expressed the hope that the new Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres will give a new impetus to the decolonization process in Western Sahara.
“The UN process for the peaceful settlement of the Sahrawi cause is currently at a deadlock,” said Messahel, the guest of the National Television programme “Hiwar Essaa.”
In this regard, he expressed the hope that the new UN Secretary General, well informed about the issue as he was UN High Commissioner for Refugees, will bring “a new approach to relaunch dialogue.”
Underlining an “international consensus” on the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, Messahel said that all the international decisions are for a “settlement allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.”SPS
