Brussels, Dec. 2, 2016 (SPS) - The Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid denied the information spread by Morocco on an alleged embezzlement of a part of the European humanitarian aid destined to the Sahrawi refugees in the camps of Tindouf, said Friday Algeria’s ambassador to Brussels Amar Belani.
“The Cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Christos Stylianides has categorically denied the information on an alleged embezzlement of a part of the European humanitarian aid destined to the Sahrawi refugees in the camps of Tindouf,” said Belani, adding that the objective was to “manipulate the Moroccan and international public opinion in a vain attempt to undermine the image of Algeria whose support to the Sahrawi people and solidarity to refugees cannot be challenged.”
On 28 November 2016, the official news agency of Morocco MAP reported a slanderous dispatch aimed at “distorting the reality of the European support to the Sahrawi refugees,” by attributing to Christos Stylianides “a statement taken out of its context the alleged embezzlement of a part of the humanitarian aid destined to the Sahrawi refugees of Tindouf.”
“This manœuvre aims also at diverting the attention from the situation of illegal occupation by Morocco of a territory on which its sovereignty is not recognized by any country in the world and from the documented human rights violations by the Moroccan repressive authorities,” added the Algerian diplomat.
