Copenhagen (Denmark) Sept 28, 2016 (SPS) - Polisario Front's Representative to Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, was received Wednesday by Mrs. Julia Winding, head of Section in the Department of North Africa and the Middle East (MENA) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
The Saharawi Representative briefed his interlocutor about various issues related to the latest developments in Western Sahara, the current impasse of the UN peace process due to Morocco’s obstruction to the UN-sponsored referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people, the Moroccan government recent provocation, escalation, ceasefire violation and troops build-up in the area of Al Guargarat in Western Sahara and its consequences on peace and security in the region.
The discussions also tackled the conclusions of the latest legal opinion of the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union which highlighted that EU-Morocco agreements should not include Western Sahara, because Western Sahara is not part of Morocco.
The Danish Diplomat with regard to the issue of Al Guargarat said: “The Danish government supports the UN's efforts to de-escalate the heightened tension between Morocco and the Polisario as a result of the incident of August 11, 2016, including the decision to initiate an investigation into the incident.
The government also supports the UN Secretary General's call on the parties to withdraw all armed elements back and respect the ceasefire of 1991 in order to avoid further escalation.”SPS
