Algiers, June 09, 2016 (SPS) – Germany approved € 1 million in humanitarian aid to the Sahrawi refugees so to meet the urgent needs in food and improve health care, said Wednesday Germany Embassy to Algiers in a communiqué.
"Germany has allocated 1 million Euros in humanitarian aid to each of the World Food Program projects (WFP) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)," said the embassy in a statement received by APS.
The WFP representative in Algeria Romain Sirois said during a meeting with German ambassador to Algiers, Götz Lingenthal that "this contribution comes at an opportune time when WFP was forced to reduce of food rations, due to the financial situation," adding that "the German contribution will reduce undoubtedly the immediate suffering of the Saharawi refugees."
As for him, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Algeria thanked the German government, affirming that the "Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf are exposed to health risks, notably following last autumn floods."
He said that "thanks to the German support, the HCR is able to substantially help the refugees."SPS
