Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on Sunday has received United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who is on an official visit to Algeria, said the Prime Minister Office in a statement.
The discussions were an opportunity for an "exhaustive assessment of the long-standing cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations system and he common willingness to give a new impetus," said the source.
The two sides discussed international and regional issues, especially the Western Sahara conflict. In this regard, the Premier underlined "Algeria's commitment for the principles of the UN Charter," said the statement.
Sellal reiterated "Algeria's support to the efforts of the UN chief and his special envoy Christopher Ross to resolve the conflict and allow the Sahrawi people exercise their unalienable right to self-determination in accordance with the international law and the related UN resolutions," added the statement.
He also underlined "Algeria's contribution to the settlement of conflicts through different mediations, which she led, including the most recent between the Malian parties and the efforts she made to facilitate dialogue in Libya," said the statement.
In this regard, the Premier reiterated "Algeria's commitment for an inclusive political solution to the crisis," added the statement.
The Prime minister and the UN chief also discussed "the public policies set up by the Algerian Government aiming for human development."
The discussions were attended by Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra. (SPS)
