Dakhla (refugee camps)-President of Republic Mohamed Abdelaziz called on Saturday in Dakhla (Saharawi refugee camps) the Moroccan people and government to work together to accelerate the holding of a fair and transparent self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people," in a speech to mark the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

"On this occasion, we send a message of fraternity to the brotherly Moroccan people and their government, and call on them to work together to accelerate the organization of a free, fair and transparent referendum for the Saharawi people, whose voters have already been identified by the UN," President Abdelaziz stressed.

In this regard, he reassured "the brotherly people of Morocco and their government" that the independent Saharawi State "will be in favour of Morocco and will work for peace and good neighbourliness."

"Morocco will find in the Saharawi State a good, sincere, and tolerant neighbour, far from any tendency of vengeance and ready to share what it has with its neighbours, on the basis of mutual respect for countries' sovereignty in the region and their peoples, brothers and sisters," President Abdelaziz affirmed.

However, he said that "the recent developments of the Western Sahara issue confirm with regret the lack of real will from the Moroccan occupier in the search for a just and comprehensive solution to the Moroccan-Sahrawi conflict."

The Saharawi President also noted "a Moroccan military and security siege suffocates the occupied Saharawi territories, a harassment of human rights and systematic expulsion of independent international observers."

For Mohamed Abdelaziz, also secretary general of the Polisario Front, stressed that such a military siege "enables Morocco to continue its flagrant violations of human rights and extensive plundering of natural resources Sahrawi, coupled with brutal suppression campaigns and unjust detentions of Sahrawi civilians, who just ask for the implementation of UN charters and resolutions for a country that has not yet exercised the right of its people to self-determination.

"In view of the statements and other provocative escalation typical to the forces of colonialism, like his visit to the occupied territories of SADR and all-out threats, the King of Morocco seeks today to impose the logic of expansion, aggression, arrogance, contempt and the fait accompli to the entire international community," the Sahrawi Head of State added.

Besides, Abdelaziz evoked current Moroccan attempts to "prevent the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Christopher Ross, from fulfilling his duties and access to Western Sahara, the main area of his job." (SPS)
