Submitted on

Shahid Al Hafed, February 27, 2016 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, reminded Friday, in the Sahrawi refugee camps, the United Nations of their mission, which is to organize the referendum in Western Sahara.

“The referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara must be organized. We expect the United Nations to take their responsibility. A special mission, which is the MINURSO, was sent for this purpose,” said Ould Sadek.

Speaking at the eve of the celebration of the 40th proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic), the Head of the Sahrawi diplomacy recalled the deployment, since the cease-fire in 1991 between the Polisario Front and the Moroccan occupier, of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

He also recalled the urgent calls of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, for the opening of “serious and responsible” negotiations between the two parties to the conflict (Morocco and the Polisario Front).

The Sahrawi official, who insisted on the UN mission and its responsibility regarding the settlement of the conflict, added that the Sahrawi people will not stand idly by. (SPS)
