UN Envoy to Western Sahara begins a visit to the region

Submitted on

Chahid Hafid, February 18, 2016 (SPS) - the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Christopher Ross, expected today in a visit to the Sahrawi refugees camps to meet with Polisario Front officials in preparation for the forthcoming visit of the Secretary-General of the UN, said on Wednesday M'hamed Khadad coordinator with MINURSO.

.

The same source stressed that the visit comes in the framework of the preparation to the report of the Security Council on the issue of Western Sahara, which will include Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

.
Ross tour comes in time characterized by a clear obstruction of the peace plan by Morocco and standstill of negotiations between the parties the Polisario Front and Morocco.

It should be recalled that the previous visits of Mr. Ross to the region did not succeed because Morocco deny the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and the lack of seriousness of the international community to put pressure on it to respect the international legality. (SPS)
