Sahrawi Council of Ministers hails campaign for self-determination referendum before end 2017

Shahid El-Hafed, Jan 25, 2016 (SPS) - Sahrawi Council of Ministers has hailed the launch of an international petition, demanding from the UN Security Council to organize, "before the end of 2017", the self-determination referendum for the Sahrawi people, denouncing Morocco's obstruction and provocation practices.

 

In a communiqué issued after a meeting chaired by SADR President, SG of Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Council of Ministers underlined that the UN should assume their responsibility by purring pressure and imposing sanctions against the Moroccan occupier so to speed up the decolonisation of Africa's last colony.

 

A petition "Western Sahara- Referendum now", initiated by the Swiss Committee of Support for the Sahrawi People has been launched recently in Europe and the World, demanding from the UN Security Council to hold "before the end of 2017", the self-determination referendum for the Sahrawi people, following the rules of 1991 Peace Plan."

 

The appeal initiators underline that the Sahrawi people "must fully enjoy the right to self-determination as established in the UN Charter."

 

Moreover, the Sahrawi Council of Ministers called for the liberation of all the Sahrawi political prisoners in the Moroccan prisons and the stoppage of the harassment and deportation practices perpetrated against them by the Moroccan occupying authorities and shed light on the destiny of over 651 Sahrawi missing persons.

 

Moreover, it called on for endowing the MINURSO with human rights monitoring mechanism in Western Sahara and report abuses, halt of natural resources as well as the dismantling of the Moroccan Wall of Shame, which is a crime against humanity. (SPS)
