Paris (France), January 23, 2016 (SPS) - French Group of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic's Friends (AFA-RASD) joined Wednesday the international petition calling the UN to organize a referendum on Saharawi people's self-determination before the end of 2017.

"AFA-RASD joins forces with the international campaign Western Sahara Referendum NOW, launched by Swiss Committees of Support to Saharawi people, through a petition to be sent to the Security Council and UN headquarters in Geneva and New York in September 2016," said the French group.

"Saharawi people should be allowed to exert their right to hold a referendum on self-determination."

The petition, initiated by the Swiss Committees, has been launched at the international level, urging the UN Security Council to hold, "before the end of 2017," a referendum on Saharawi people's self-determination.

French Group of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic's Friends or AFA-RASD is made up of several NGOs and organizations supporting Saharawi people in their struggle against Moroccan occupation. (SPS)
