Announcement of first phase results of National Secretariat elections

 Dakhla (Refugee Camps) December 23, 2015 (SPS) - The committee in charge of the elections of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has announced the results of the first stage of the process, highlighting that only two among the list of the candidates obtained the absolute majority of the votes casted that is required by the law.

 

The chairperson of the committee highlighted that under articles 72-73 of the Basic Law of the Frente POLISARIO, the winner in the first phase of elections for members of the National Secretariat is the one who obtains an absolute majority, 50 + 1, and accordingly only two candidates have acquired the necessary votes, Hamma Salama with 1225 votes, and M'Hamed Khaddad with 1135 votes, of the 1969 casted votes.  

 In line with paragraph "c" of Article 73 of the Basic Law of the Polisario front, and due to the lack of attainment by the remaining candidates of the votes needed in the first phase, a second phase will be resorted to in which the winner will be who gains a majority of the votes of 81 candidates according to ranking.   

 

 The list of the candidates for the remaining posts, include 81 candidates, according to the requirements of the election law.

 

The 14th Congress of the Frente POLISARIO Had re-elected Mohamed Abdelaziz the Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO, and endorsed membership of the Secretaries General of mass organizations (workers, youth, students, women), and allocated 16 seats for the occupied territory, in the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO.
