Withdrawal of French Total from occupied Sahrawi territories, new diplomatic success

Submitted on

Dakhla (Refugee Camps)- Deputy Minister for European Affairs Mohamed Sidati dubbed the decision made by the French oil giant Total to cease its geological survey work in the Anzarane block, off the occupied territories of Western Sahara, a "new diplomatic success" for the Sahrawi cause.

"According to the information we have received, a number of multinationals, driven by Morocco in plundering operation of the Sahrawi natural resources, begin to reconsider their policies regarding the occupied Western Sahara," Sidati told APS in response to the withdrawal of the French oil group.

"It is a victory for the Sahrawi people in their struggle for freedom and legitimate rights," he added.

"This is the immediate result of the decision of the European Union's Court of Justice to cancel, with immediate effect, the agreement on agricultural and fish products trade liberalization, signed in March 2012 between Rabat and the EU," he added.

The agreement included products from the occupied Sahrawi territories.

"We are glad that Total ceased its activities offshore the occupied Sahrawi territories," said Representative of Polisario Front in Paris, Mansour Omar.

Multinationals operating in the Moroccan-occupied Sahrawi territories "are in illegal situation, and risk prosecutions, especially following the EU Court decision," he warned. (SPS)
