Nigeria reiterates its support for right of Saharawi people to self-determination

Dakhla (refugee camps), December 17, 2015 (SPS) The Director for African Affairs at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rabiu Aikawa, reiterated the support of his country to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence .

 

 "On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I reiterate our unconditional support for the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence," Mr. Aikawa declared in his speech to the participants in the 14th Congress of the Polisario Front, held from 16 to 20 December, in the Wilaya of Dakhla, refugee camps, under the theme "Strength, determination and will to impose the national independence and sovereignty."

 

 The Nigerian diplomat confirmed that the decolonization of Western Sahara is a fundamental issue in Nigerian politics.

 

He also expressed the "deep" concern of his country towards the continuous violations of human rights in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara, calling for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to exercise self-determination and independence. (SPS)
