14th Polisario Congress: Algeria attached to peoples' self-determination right

DAKHLA (Refugee Camps), December 17, 2015 (SPS) -Minister of Mujahedeen  Tayeb Zitouni stressed Wednesday in the refugee camps in Tindouf (Dakhla) that  his participation in the 14th Polisario Congress reflected the attachment of Algeria to the right of peoples to self-determination and its support for the full implementation of UN decisions.

"Algeria has marked the history of decolonization and continue to support the Saharawi people until they can fully exercise their rights under international law,"  the Minister stressed, noting that this position is in line with the international community's approach, mainly the UN head, which recognizes that the Saharawi issue is a decolonization issue that cannot be resolved only through the exercise by the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination.

"The inalienable position of Algeria is identical to that of the AU that makes the issue of the completion of decolonization in Western Sahara a priority", the Minister added.

"The UN is called upon to honor its commitments to complete the decolonization process" in Western Sahara through a self-determination referendum, said Zitouni who called for ensuring the protection of human rights these areas and adopting a firm position to end "oppression suffered by the Sahrawi people and to plunder its riches."

In this regard, Zitouni said that "Algeria will spare no effort to assist the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon and his special envoy in the region, Christopher Ross, to promote dialogue directly between the two parties to the conflict (Morocco and Polisario Front) and work to achieve a just and lasting solution that guarantees the brotherly Saharawi people's right to self-determination."

For Zitouni, the creation of the Polisario Front is a response "to the aspiration of the brave Sahrawi people who will never abandon their rights and struggle to recover and snatch the right to free expression."

"After many years of struggle, the Polisario Front has gained experience and maturity and imposed itself in the international arena to defend their just cause," said Zitouni, citing the the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic's achievements, including the recognition of SADR by several countries, which demonstrates that the Saharawi cause is just."
