Dakhla (Sahrawi refugee camps), December 16, 2015 (SPS) - Sahrawi people are in a "position of strength" and "close to victory," said Wednesday Secretary General of Polisario Front and President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Mohamed Abdelaziz.

"We are in a position of strength, not only because law and justice are with our cause, but also because we have gone through important stages," said Abdelaziz in his opening address at the 14th Polisario Front Congress, adding that the Sahrawi people "are close to victory."

"It is only a matter of time," he said, adding the "Sahrawi people have made a historic leap in their struggle for independence."

He also stressed the need for Sahrawi people to persevere in their struggle and in their determination to achieve independence.

The Sahrawi president underlined the various priorities for Sahrawi people, particularly the need to preserve the national unity and consolidate the building of a modern State with its executive, legislative and judicial institutions.

He also called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities in the current standstill in the process for the decolonization of Western Sahara, which has been occupied for 40 years. (SPS)
