Madrid, 15 Nov 2015 (SPS) - Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar denounced Saturday evening in Madrid the excessive violations committed by the Moroccan occupier against the Sahrawis, calling the United Nations to intervene to protect the Sahrawi people.

“The Sahrawi people, peace-loving, are daily subjected to attacks and violations,” lamented Haidar, on the sidelines of the 40th International Conference for Support and Solidarity with Sahrawi People (EUCOCO), denouncing the last dangerous provocation of the Moroccan King Mohamed VI, “who defied by this irresponsible visit all the international community.”

She also criticized the policies of the French and Spanish governments in the conflict of Western Sahara, accusing them of being “Morocco’s accomplices.”

In this regard, Haidar called for the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring mechanism in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

In its final statement after the works which lasted two days in Madrid, the 40th EUCOCO called on the international community to put more pressure on the Moroccan occupier and Spanish government to end the illegal occupation of the Sahrawi territories.

The participants also denounced “crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Morocco in the Sahrawi occupied territories.” (SPS)
