Sahrawi delegation meets with Director for Middle East and North Africa at Foreign and Commonwealth Office

London (UK) July 31, 2015 (SPS) - A Sahrawi delegation led by the Sahrawi Coordinator with MINURSO, Mr. M'hamed Khadad, accompanied by the Representative of Polisario Front in Britain, Mr. Mohamed Limam Mohammed Ali, has met with the Director for Middle East and North Africa at Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ms. Jane Marriott, at its headquarters in London.  

 

 According to a statement released by the Representation of Polisario Front in Britain, a copy of it received Friday by SPS, the British officials reiterated their government's position on the Sahrawi issue, confirming its support for the efforts of the United Nations through the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Christopher Ross, in order to reach a lasting and acceptable peaceful solution to the parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, providing for the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people.

 

The meeting focused on the developments of the Sahrawi issue, the UN peace process in Western Sahara in light of the report of the Secretary General, the 2218 Resolution of the Security Council on Western Sahara and the renew of MINURSO mandate.  

 

 It addressed the illegal agriculture agreement between the EU and Morocco in the light of the appeal submitted by Polisario Front against the European Union at the European Court.  

 

It discussed the role that the British government could play regarding the Sahrawi issue as one of the Group of Friends of Western Sahara at the Security Council, added the same source. (SPS)
