Paris, July 11, 2015 (SPS) Saharawi academic researcher and diplomat Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar hosted a conference on the conflict in Western Sahara, on the sidelines of the 6th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS-6)  held from July 8 to 10, at the Paris I University Panthéon-Sorbonne under the theme "collective mobilizations in Africa: contestations, resistance and revolts."

Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar focused his research entitled "conflict zones: Western Sahara example" on the history of this conflict and the current status of "neither war nor peace" that has been marked by changes in the military, diplomatic and public relations, as well as social events and humanitarian issues that have contributed to shed more light on the human dimension of the conflict.

The Saharawi diplomat addressed the situation of Saharawi citizens in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by Morocco and violations against civilians because of their demand to the legitimate right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.

For her part, researcher Joanna Aland, from the British Leeds University, spoke about her research visit to the occupied Saharawi territories, the forced expulsion and harassment by Moroccan authorities of occupation.

The conference was attended by the Representative of the Polisario Front in France, Omar Mansour, researchers, teachers and students.

The 6th European Conference of African Studies was jointly organized by the Institute of African Worlds (IMAF) and Africas in the world (AML). (SPS)
