Slovenia hosts international conference of solidarity with Saharawi people

Ljubljana, May 7, 2015 (SPS) - An international conference of solidarity with the Saharawi people on Wednesday convened in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, under the theme: “politics as impediments to Saharawi’s right to self-determination.”


The conference, the 5th of its kind in Slovenia, was attended by some members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Ljubljana, representatives of the Foreign Ministry’s human rights department, political parties, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations and mass media of Slovenia.


Among the presence was also the Chairman of Slovenia Institute for Studies on Western Sahara Mr. Alice Bliss Schorencick, Polisario Front’s Representative Mr. Malainin Bagada, the Spanish senator Urko Azurtza, Professor Carlos Ruiz Miguel of Spain, Dr. Ismail Debeche of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS), in addition to several other professors from Austria, Slovenia and Hungary.


The conference saw the screening of the film “El Problema (the problem)”, which features the human rights violations taking place in the occupied Western Sahara and the resistance has been on since 2005.


The meeting adopted a final declaration on the Saharawi issue. (SPS)
