President of Republic receives Gernika Award for Peace and Reconciliation

Gernika (Spain), April 25, 2015 (SPS) - The President of the National Council, Khatri Adduh, will represent Sunday the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, at the ceremony of Gernika Award for peace and reconciliation in recognition of his commitment to peace in Western Sahara and the defense of human rights of the Saharawi people.

 

The decision, to grant the President of the Republic the Gernika Award for peace and reconciliation, was taken recently by a jury of the political representatives of the Municipality of Gernika-Lumo.

 

The second prize will be awarded to doctor and social psychologist, Carlos Martín Beristain, for his work over the last thirty years in the support and assistance to victims of violent conflicts in various parts of the world such as Guatemala, Colombia, Western Sahara, Bosnia, Mexico, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ecuador, and others.

 

This prize is awarded annually on April 26, as part of the commemorations marking the bombing of the Gernika city by the Nazi army, allied with the Spanish Military coup, it should be recalled. (SPS)
