New Namibian President renews solidarity with Saharawi people

Wondhoek, April 23, 2015 (SPS) - The new president-elect of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob, has reiterated solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and Palestine, stressing the need to ensure their freedom from oppression.


“We reiterate our solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and Palestine and urge the International Community to ensure that the people of these countries attain freedom from oppression and aggression,” said President Geingob, in his first State of the Nation Address, pronounced on 21 April 2015 in Windhoek, capital of Namibia, at the opening ceremony of the Namibian parliament.


He, therefore, appealed to all African presidents to ensure peace, stability and the rule of law to all those people who have experienced the difficulty of oppression, including of which the Saharawi and Palestinian peoples.


Hage Geingob, 74 years, is the third and current President of Namibia, in office since 21 March 2015.


Geingob served as a Prime Minister in the periods 1990-2002 and 2012-2015. In 2007, he was the Vice-President of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), Namibia’s ruling party, and he was Minister of Trade and Industry from 2008 to 2012. (SPS)
