Mostaganem (Algeria), April 16, 2015 (SPS) - Open study days on Saharawi culture on Thursday morning kicked off in the Department of Communication and Information Sciences at Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University of Mostaganem, Algeria, in the presence of University staff and students as well as representatives of civil society components in the city.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Saharawi Consul to the Algerian West, Mr. Musa Selma, the Deputy Dean of Mostaganem University in charge of Studies, Mr. Ahmed Al-Hawwari, Secretary General of the Saharawi Students Union (UESARIO), Moulay Ahmahamad Brahim, the person in charge of Saharawi students in Algerian western universities, Ali Barka, in addition to a number of Saharawi and Algerian students.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Al-Hawwari reiterated Algeria’s firm and principled position of support to the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, lamenting for the continued occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco for nearly four decades.
Saharawi consul, for his part, hailed Algeria’s constant positions of support to Saharawi cause, highlighting the leading role of Saharawi students in preserving the national identity of their people and defending their legitimate cause.
The University of Mostaganem will, in coming three days, witness a range of activities and festivities shedding light on the Saharawi culture and exposing Morocco’s heinous practices against Saharawi innocent civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
