Algiers, April 1, 2015 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, welcomed Tuesday, in Algiers, the “historic and crucial” decision of the African Union (AU) to re-launch the decolonization process of Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony.

The Saharawi Foreign Minister said in a press conference held at the headquarters of Western Sahara’s embassy in Algeria, that the decision adopted, Saturday, by the Peace and Security Council of the African Union relating to the decolonization of Western Sahara was a “historic and crucial decision for the decolonization process in front of the Moroccan hindrances and manoeuvres,” calling the United Nations Security Council to cooperate with AU in the peace process in Western Sahara.

For Ould Salek, this decision denotes the “firm determination” of AU to end the colonization in Africa and defend the noble principles, including the people’s right to self-determination and inviolability of the borders inherited after the independence.

Ould Salek expressed the willingness of the Saharawi government and Polisario front to “efficiently cooperate with the United nations and the African Union to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence,” reaffirming the commitment of the Saharawi government to the necessary application of the agreement signed in 1991.
