Geneva (Switzerland), March 22, 2015 (SPS) - The American Association of Jurists urged France not to oppose the inclusion of a chapter on human rights’ protection in the mandate of the MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara).

“The association noted with interest the announcement made by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights concerning the next sending of a technical mission to Western Sahara,” said the Association in a statement released Wednesday, in Geneva, on the occasion of the 28th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, taking place from 2 to 27 March.

The association invited the members of the human rights Council to “read the report which will be prepared by the technical mission and called on France not to oppose the inclusion of a chapter on human rights in the MINURSO’s mandate.”

For the Association, “the continuing and serious violation of fundamental rights and liberties by the Moroccan Kingdom in the territories of Western Sahara, illegally occupies for forty years, can’t continue with impunity.” (SPS)
