Madrid, March 18, 2015 (SPS) - MEP Fernando Maura on Tuesday urgently called on the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon to extend the prerogatives of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
In a written letter addressed to the UN chief, MP Maura expressed commitment to continue working so that human rights in Western Sahara are respected.
He went on saying that the MINURSO remains the only UN mission of its kind across the world not able to monitor and prevent human rights abuses to take place.
Maura is a member of the European Parliament representing the Spanish Party of the Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD). He has recently elected as vice-president of the European Parliamentary Group for Western Sahara. (SPS)
