Russia confirms support to solution to conflict in Western Sahara based on UN resolutions

 Moscow (Russia) February 27, 2015 (SPS) – The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed its support to a mutually acceptable solution to the conflict in Western Sahara in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

 

 This came in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry after the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and countries of Africa and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, H.E. Mikhail Bogdanov, met with a delegation of the Polisario Front.

  

The statement which was published on the official site of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the firm position of Moscow based on the need to find a mutually acceptable political solution to the conflict on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

 

 The statement renewed the continuation of work along with all interested parties to the conflict particularly the partners in the Group of Friends of Western Sahara, with an emphasis on the support to the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.

 

It should be recalled that a delegation of the Polisario Front headed by the coordinator with MINURSO, Mr. M'hamed Khadad, had met Wednesday with Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov and briefed  him on the latest developments related to the Sahrawi issue, stressing that the situation of stalemate in the peace process does not serve stability in the region.
