Geneva, Feb 5, 2015 (SPS) - The Swiss Committee of Support to the Saharawi People on Thursday called, in a statement, on the Crans Montana Forum not to celebrate its seminar in the occupied city of Dajla, Western Sahara, adding this would constitute a “grave mistake.”
The Committee indicated that the holding of the Forum is a violation of international law and resolutions of the United Nations, adding “it is fully incompatible with the objectives of this Forum which seeks to bring peace among people.”
Speaking at the Swiss Federal Council on Wednesday, President of the Committee Berthier Perregaux lamented for the fact that Crans Montana Forum would be organized in Western Sahara, which listed at the UN as a non-self-governing territory since 1963.
He added that Switzerland, which supports UN peacekeeping operations in Western Sahara by providing experts and military observers, “cannot in any way endorse an initiative that violates international law.”
The official went on saying that holding the forum in occupied Dajla would not contribute to finding a solution to the conflict of Western Sahara. (SPS)
