UN Special Representative Kim Bolduc embarks on visit to Saharawi refugee camps

Submitted on

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 6, 2015 (SPS) - The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Ms. Kim Bolduc of Canada, will embark Saturday on a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps, first since her appointment in May 2014.

The UN Envoy will be granted a public reception in the Wilaya of Smara, Saharawi refugee camps.

During her visit, Ms. Bolduc will hold talks with officials in the Frente Polisario and Saharawi government.

Since her appointment to the post in May 2014, Morocco has been reluctant to allow Mr. Bolduc to carry out her mission as head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara.

It also blocked Mr. Christopher Ross, personal envoy of the UN secretary general, from visiting the region.

The Polisario Front has repeatedly expressed readiness to continue cooperating with the United Nations in order to find a solution guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, and ensures peace and stability in the whole region. (SPS)
