The EU expresses support to solution includes self-determination of Saharawi people

Brussels (Belgium), January 17, 2015 (SPS) - Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission expressed, on behalf of the European Union, support to resolution includes self-determination of the Saharawi people, according to APS.

 


Ms. Mogherini stressed, in a response to a question by European Deputy that "The EU supports the UN's efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution to the question of Western Sahara includes self-determination of the Saharawi people on the basis of UN Security Council relevant regulations."

 


The Vice President of the European Commission explained that the EU "closely following" the evolution of the situation in Western Sahara, expressing "concern" about this conflict, which lasts for four decades and its implications for security and respect for human rights and cooperation in the region."

 


Ms. Mogherini highlighted the fact that the European Union " addresses on a regular basis issues related to human rights in its bilateral political dialogue with the Moroccan authorities, as well as through private dialogue on human rights and democracy. (SPS)
